Get Smart(er)

As I glanced around the room, I noticed that about 25 families attended the parenting conference.

My heart sank.

Where were all the other parents?

Phil and Diane Comer presented a wealth of wisdom, and those present were absorbing every word with intense focus. What the Comers presented was time-tested, hardcore truth delivered in a non-judgmental and practical manner.

This created a stir within me. Where was everyone else? At sports activities? At home?

Why would anyone purposefully miss the opportunity to gain such valuable insight?

As parents, we can’t raise godly families without learning from those who have gone before us. Often, we’re so engrossed in the day-to-day of “being” a family that we neglect to prioritize the growth of our family in Christ-centered ways.

If you want to be a “successful” mother seek wisdom from those who have achieved the very outcomes you desire. Great, godly children don’t happen by chance.

"We, for every kind of reason, good and bad, are distracting ourselves into spiritual oblivion. It is not that we have anything against God, depth, and spirit; we would like these. It’s just that we are habitually too preoccupied to have any of these show up on our radar screens."
- Ronald Rolheiser

Don’t get so focused on daily events that you aim far too low to steward your children to LOVE and SEEK God.

Don’t let the world distract you from the very purpose of motherhood. God trusted YOU to nurture children who will passionately pursue Him.

Determine your main goal. What do you want MOST for your kids? Most Valuable Player? High honors? Or do you want them to know, love, and follow Jesus? Your schedule reflects your true priorities.

If you have lost your focus, readjust.
