New Year = New Goals

I love the start of a New Year! A fresh slate.

Every year I plan, dream and get focused.

Being Intentional is my passion. As your Intentional Mom Coach allow me to help you get this year started off right. This I believe. This I know. This one thing has the potential to redirect everything IF YOU LET IT!

Are you ready to do things different? When I reflect over the past year sometimes my goals are left undone. That is okay, I haven’t failed. Instead I celebrate the ones I did accomplish. Sometimes I carry over goals from year to year other times I ditch them. Either way, I am a HUGE believer in goal setting.

Goal setting is an art. Sometimes finger-painted, sometimes Monet. It starts with a simple plan of action.

Let me break it down into two parts:

                        1~ ONE WORD

                      2~ GOAL SETTING

One Word for the year, has been a buzz for awhile. I officially started this tradition  back in 2012. The idea is to focus on one word that will help mold your year. Last year my word was STRATEGIC. Prepare, passion, transform are just a few of my former “one word”.  There are blogs and books written in great detail. A good place to start – http://www.myoneword.org

A plethora of advice is swirling on goal setting this time of the year. They are all right and all wrong. Ha! You have to do whatever works best for you. I even read a book that told me not to set goals. Some will say “set only 3 goals”, or “create one word for the entire year to focus on”, or “10 goals”, or  “no goals just actions steps’…. you get the idea.

Since I haven’t found the perfect planner, I created my own goal sheet. I break down my goals into five different sections:

Spiritual

            Physical

                          Practical

                                    Intellectual

                                                     Financial

(Difference between practical and intellectual? Practical is decorating my bedroom. Intellectual would be learning how to decorate. We should never stop learning and growing.)

Breaking it down into five categories allows me to focus on each specific area. I also get clear on how I will complete that goal. For instance, if I want to learn Spanish, my goals would be LEARN SPANISH. But the HOW is more important. So I take the next step, “Practice Spanish for 20 minutes, 3 days a week.”, which is my measurable action step.

Research supports the importance of goal setting. What do you want in 2020? What dreams are bubbling inside of you? What tasks need to be tackled? What new skill is waiting to be discovered?

Get excited for 2020.

Set goals! Get intentional with your life. Create an action plan. Have someone hold you accountable. Living your best version of YOU starts with purpose and passion. We all can do more, dream more, achieve more.
