School is starting. Again?!?

People express with a variety of reactions, from ecstatic to grief. Eight years ago God called our family to home school. Sounds simple. NOT! In my former life (before motherhood) I was a teacher against home school. Plus, I was vocal about it. OOPS! (I have since learned to keep my mouth shut, well, most of the time.) Never dreamed (never ever) that I would still be home schooling!

We are ALL called to home school!

Don’t panic, I don’t mean school at home. (I am NOT one of those people.) I mean teach our children EVERY day who God is and how to serve Him daily through words and example. It is not the churches or school’s responsibility to teach your kids about God. I read the entire Bible this year and I NEVER read “let the church train your kids in spiritual stuff.” However I did read Deuteronomy chapter 6 which says, “parents… impress them (His commandments) on your children.” Somehow parents handed the spiritual training to the church and/or others then took a back seat.

Be their “spiritual” trainer! God called you. I challenge me, you, the mom on Facebook, to take this beginning school year to get serious and purposeful about training up our next generations of leaders.

Ideas to get you started-
1) Start a prayer journal- write prayers for each child
2) Write out character traits to work on this year
3) Make eating meals together a priority!
4) Write out scriptures to memorize as a family (Last year we loved “My ABC Bible Verses”)
5) Find a good book on parenting (currently I am reading “Raising a Daughter after God’s Own Heart”)
6) Pray with them before bed and when dropping them off
7) Speak words of truth and blessings over them -“You are an amazing leader!” “You are going to be a world changer!”
8) Read the Bible together (don’t overspiritualize-don’t get hung up on “Family Devotions”-just take moments to read)
9) Teach them WHAT you stand for as a family
10) Get yourself in God’s word! We can’t teach what we don’t know!

The pain of discipline is less than the pain of regret!

Now is the time to get serious about pouring L.I.F.E. (Live Intentionally For Eternity) into my kids. It is never too late or too early. Today is the best day to start. I am far (very far…like outer space far) from being the perfect mom. I love my kids and desire the best. There is NO doubt that God called parents to train their children. Honestly, sometimes it shakes me to my very core but He will equip me. Time to take it to the next level. It won’t be easy, life has a way of taking over. Get an accountability partner (if needed), get praying and get busy raising kids that will be world changers!

School is starting in my house.  Praying for an intentional home training year!
